I read somewhere that the Q7 and Cayenne were heavier than they should have been because being over a certain weight created tax advantages for US buyers. Dunno if that's true.

damn Brits and their pounds. I'm trying to figure out what 500 pounds equals in USD ... ~$850. Then realized it's weight pounds.

Maybe emissions regulations/taxation?

I wish I remember where I read it

I can't remember if it was on Oppo or a Porsche blog

Someone said that the next gen Cayenne would be way lighter because either the tax advantage went away or VAG stopped caring about it because CAFE is more important now

Yeah my guess is that regulations are changing.

I think there used to be a law that let businesses write off trucks or SUVs over a certain weight and depreciate them faster than a regular car because they were considered commercial vehicles. It was a loophole that helped fuel the SUV craze because business owners could buy luxury SUVs as their work cars and get tax advantages. I'm nor clear on exactly how it works as my CPA does all my taxes and I like driving smaller cars so I never took advantage of it.

But laws probably changed due to emissions and fuel economy regs.

This is what I'm figuring and I'm sure there was some sort of tax relief for Audi as well.
